Hal Elrod’s self-help book promises more energy, motivation and focus to those who manage to put into practice his morning routine. The basic premise is that if we improve ourselves we can improve our lives and the morning is the best time to set intentions for the day. The book explains how these six SAVERS habits could make that difference:

  1. Silence – the power of purposeful silence, such as meditation

  2. Affirmations and how to create them

  3. Visualisation of what you really want

  4. Exercise

  5. Reading to learn something

  6. Scribe or journaling

Having survived a hit-and-run accident and being dead for six minutes, Hal Elrod became an ultra-marathon runner, successful coach and key-note speaker. Whilst no one aspect of the SAVERS routine is unique by itself, the magic of this book is the way that the author links them together in a simple way.

What I wanted:
I was hoping for the life transformation that the marketing material said happens to tens of thousands of people around the world! However, I felt the book was a bit of a slog and these six habits could possibly be summed up in a shorter blog.

What I loved:
Even if you have a busy schedule and struggle to wake at 5.30am, which I certainly do, the basis behind the concept is great. There are aspects that I definitely do most mornings, such as meditation and writing and the online resources that go with the book are a great way to get started, especially the 30 day challenge.
