What would life be like if those happy and excited holiday faces that we see on social media were the 24/7 reality of our lives?  The reality for me today is a house full of laundry, damp sleeping bags draped over the hallway bannister to dry, a fridge that needs re-filling, a bulging credit card and an empty bank balance!  So, in this world where life is so often dictated by other family members’ demands, worries about money and/or work and fears of another lockdown; how can we find happiness with the set of cards that the game of life has dealt us?

After a year like no other we have had before, I don’t seem to be the only person who feels as though the summer holidays have dragged on forever.  In a poll I did on my Instagram stories, the majority of you also felt shattered by the holidays and in need of some TLC.  It amused me that it was the children who answered to say that they had loved every moment of their holidays!  So why do we prioritise other people’s fun over our own?!

This got me thinking that the children going back to school is a perfect time to hit pause, re-think the bucket list and resolutions and establish what will be the priority for the rest of the year.  September is known as a time for fresh starts, so once term starts and the work and/or school commute settles back into a familiar pattern, I hope that you can carve out time to think about what it is YOU actually want.

It is normal to make major life changes after a significant life event.  What woke me up to focus on my goals for my life was the moment I learnt how finite life is, when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and I became a widow.  I do not want anyone to go through what I went through, but the pandemic has been a wake-up call for many people and lots of you are looking for change.

I say that now is the perfect time to think about this, but change is not easy to do alone.  We need to make sure that we have an eye on the future, whilst making sure that we enjoy where we are now.  We only get one life, so we need to find a way of enjoying each moment and find peace with living a perfectly imperfect life.  To make a start – please sign up for my free 40 minute Master Class called “Whose Life are You Living?” at 8pm on Sunday 12 September 2021.
