Why I don’t just work with widows!
A potential new client did a double check with me the other day… they wanted my reassurance that they could come to me for support because they weren’t a widow… I assured them that I am a general grief and life coach and I thought it wise to repeat that message to you too…
I support anyone who is bereaved, as well as people who are lucky enough not to have experienced death yet too!
In a world where businesses get advised to identify their ideal client and niche down… I’m remaining as a generalist and here are four reasons why…
Grief doesn’t discriminate - the death of a loved one (regardless of our relationship with them) is one of the most painful things we will experience as human beings and it doesn’t matter what your background, sadly it’s the one thing that is certain for us all.
Sometimes the core issue is not what you think it is - it’s not unusual for clients to have a presenting issue but for the real reason why they are stuck to be something else that is more hidden. What’s fascinating is that the core issue is not necessarily grief over the death of a person, sometimes it’s grief over other things… such as a future life that is no longer possible to be lived as anticipated.
It is possible for us all to grow life around the grief - although the pain of grief doesn’t go, it is possible to grow a wonderful life around grief. I know this because I have done it and it’s one of the most rewarding parts of my job seeing a variety of different clients learn to find their own rainbows in this stormy world.
We all need to sort our Sadmin - sadly death is the only certainty for us all, and whether we’ve experienced a death or not, we all need to sort out the important home admin paperwork that becomes vital when people get ill or die.
I hope that this illustrates why I’m here for anyone who feels overwhelmed and upset and needs to either sort out their Sadmin or learn to grow life around their grief.
With my unique past I truly believe it’s my soul’s purpose to run this business and do the work that I do.
When you look at my forty-something years so far, it seems that all the different strands of my life have come together to form a whole. Various things have happened to me that make me perfect for this grief and life coaching and in no particular order they are:
My former career as a Wills & Probate lawyer who specialised in end of life paperwork for elderly and vulnerable adults
The tragic death of my late husband in 2016 that catapulted me into a life of widowhood and solo parenting our two young children
Grief education from national bereavement charity Cruse for whom I given over 100 hours of supervised volunteer time supporting bereaved people with their grief
Late diagnosed ADHD, which for me means the penny has dropped about why certain tasks are really tough and which has made me an expert at getting the dull jobs done!
I’m a perfectly imperfect human… I’m a mother, sister, daughter and friend who knows what it’s like to have a rollercoaster life in this crazy world!
As I read in a Forbes article recently, “Generalists are the conductors that lead the orchestra”… we have a good situational awareness and we are able to see the bigger picture. If you’d like my help in seeing your bigger picture, please check out the services we offer through Rainbow Hunting here.
